Marvel Rival

Hero Shooter genre games are nothing new in the gaming world, but one new game released by Netease has got the attention of many gamers and most especially from the fans of Marvel Comics. 6vs6 battles with various classes like tanks, damage, and support equivalents-in this case, called Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist-the modes offered also vary: the familiar escort and point grab modes that have become the hallmark of Hero Shooter.

So, what does Marvel Rival offer compared to the rest of the Hero Shooter games out there? Well, this time Netease adds a little spice to this game called Team-Up ability. Like when Star-Lord is paired with Adam Warlock, he’s given the ability to revive himself with very long cooldowns. This combination of passive and active is a clever touch, and so far feels balanced between being a momentum changer when used correctly without being a complete game changer that makes you feel like a slave when choosing a hero-or villain-early in the match. Another example is selecting Rocket Racoon when your team has Groot, which lets this barking rodent literally add bark to his bite as he leaps onto his tree friend’s back and rains down fire from there, giving him incoming damage reduction. This encourages smart team building without leaving characters behind or feeling guilty for not fulfilling their incessant requests to work together.

This addition of the system is very good, as it makes the game fresh and not monotonous. Don’t forget that some parts of the map in this game can also be destroyed or intact again every round, which makes the game more exciting. I was initially skeptical of third-person gunplay, traditionally preferring to shoot from a first-person perspective, but Rivals executes the game well.
