Concord’s Commercial Failure Forces Sony to Shutter Firewalk Studios
What is this game?
Concord involved multiple players flying around in person hero shooter game designed by Firewalk Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was launched for PlayStation 5, as well as Windows on the 23rd of August, 2024. Being a science fiction video set in a period of futuristic but vivid past it was depicting the world in which human beings and humanoid aliens coexisted and where the show depicted battles between teams of mercenaries.
The year 2024 accordingly was a bit of a roller coaster year for the gaming industry. Concord, for instance, was one of the failed titles that never got to achieve critics and consumers’ acclaim similar to other titles. Concord, once considered as a first-person shooter game by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Firewalk Studios, was of such a kind.
The Downfall
Some games, such as Concord, which attracted considerable funding and hoopla from game companies and media, leave players cold. New gameplay mechanics are outdated, it is not innovative at all and its story is also cliché. The game did not have that competitive edge due to the flooded market especially when competing with great rental games.
The low attraction of players in the game was due to the poor performance of the game that even player loyalty could not be achieved. uh, more and more players who had been disappointed with the monotonous and hacky game experience, and frequent crashes quit this game shortly after they purchased it. Therefore, Sony had to pull the plug and terminated the gaming system and had to refund customers who felt they were ripped off.
The case of apex distribution and concord is a sorry one that shows even with lions share of the developer money and experience, one can come up with a bad game. However, it is also critical in stressing the factors such as innovation, creativity, and player needs understanding. In an environment that is constantly in the process of emerging, it is important for developers to try as much as possible stage new limits, or be left behind.
It isn’t easy to underestimate the impact of the Firewalk Studios’ shut down which was behind the creation of Concord. It is a word of advice to other developers to avoid such vices that may lead them making poor quality products in their bid to increase the quantity of their products. With the ever-changing gamer environment, only the companies that can change with it and provide that true one of a kind experience will thrive.
What will happen with this game?
In continuation of its earlier announcement to try to resuscitate Concord in an attempt to, today Sony killed the developer Firewalk Studios for good.
According to PlayStation’s CEO Hermen Hulst, this was done after several attempts over several months in an effort to revive the Concord project and other options they considered which did not prove successful.
In the end, it is no longer even possible to revive Concord and Sony has closed down Firewalk Studios.
